Apple Recruiting for iPhone Game Development

Apple Apple has traditionally taken a very hands-off approach to game development, especially on the iPhone and iPod Touch. But according to a job posting (spotted by Develop), the tech giant is finally looking into cashing in on the success of the App Store with some iPhone games of their own.

The job posting in question seeks to recruit a software engineer with several years of game development experience -- ideally, one that already has a finished, triple-A title under their belt. The position is described as part of "a small highly motivated team to work on interactive multimedia experiences on the iPhone and iPod Touch."

It's anyone's guess as to why it took Apple so long to start taking internal game development seriously on the iPhone. The platform has experienced clear success since its official launch over a year ago, and it would be relatively trivial for Apple to leverage their control over the App Store to overcome the promotional hurdles that other iPhone developers struggle with.
